Jace Birney was recognized on 2/15 for reaching 2514 points for his career passing St. Mary's Chase Cochran as the All-Time Region 1 men's scoring leader. See story in Boys Basketball News.
For only the second time in school history and the first time since 2010, the Bombers boys basketball team won the Region 1 All-A title with a 62-52 win over the Mayfield Cardinals.
With a 70-59 win over John Hardin, a 52-41 win over Allen Co.-Scottsville, and a 42-33 win over Owensboro Apollo, the Bombers basketball team earned Co-Champs honors at the Caveland Classic held at Edomonson County HS December 26-28.
Johnna Riggs signed a letter of intent to play for the Shawnee Community College Saints softball program on November 20. She is pictured with Saints coach Kyle Smith, her mom Suprene, sister Sunny, and her coaches Scott Alexander and her father Johnny.
BMHS junior Madison Glisson won her 3rd straight All A state golf championship on September 7, 2024. Playing at Richmond Golf & Country Club, she shot a one-under par 71 to win by 2 strokes.
Freshman Madison Bohde struck out her 500th career batter in the first round of the Region 1 Tourney against Marshall County in a 4-2 win on May 27.
Junior Amyah Smith placed 4th in the state in the Triple Jump competition in the KHSAA State Championships in Lexington in May. She also finished 8th in Long Jump.
With a reverse layup, Jace Birney scored his 16th point of the game against Graves County High School on Tuesday, February 4. Additionally, the basket gave Birney 2514 points for his career and a place atop all other players in the history of KHSAA Region 1 basketball. St. Mary's Chase Cochran held the record at 2513 points, and had passed Joe Ford of Mayfield (who later played at Vanderbiilt) who had 2503 points. With 10 more regular season games scheduled, Birney has the opportunity to grow that total and make his record one more likely to stand for years.Graves County gave the Bombers the game ball from the evening, and that ball was placed in a commemorative case and presented to Jace before the Graves County game at the Green Palace on February 15.
More About Jace Birney Becomes Men's Region 1 All-Time Scoring LeaderWith 1.2 seconds on the clock, Luke Sims for St. Mary sank 15-footer to break the 51-51 tie and seemingly sealed the advance of the Region 1 All-A Tournament's top seed. However, after a Bomber time out, Cole Ballard inbounded the ball to Ike Miller who turned without a dribble and launched a 3/4 court shot that banked in for the improbable 3-point shot and the 54-53 win for the Bombers on January 17. After falling to the Vikings by 19 points in the second week of the season, the Bombers compiled a balanced attack that included 16 points from Miller, and 27 bench points from Kyler Ballard (12), Cole Ballard (7), and Reed Duren (7) to secure the win. Duren's 3-pointer with 3:37 to go in the game which gave them the lead at 50-49 was their last field goal in the 3:36. They managed only a free throw by Ed Proesmans at the 2:27 mark before Miller's heroics helped the Bombers advance to finals for a rematch with Mayfield on January 18.
More About Buzzer Beater Propels Upset in All A Semi'sIn his first game as head coach of the BMHS varsity boys program, Kevin Estes' Bombers went on a huge 4th quarter run to secure a 73-53 win over Fulton County in their 24-25 season opener. The Pilots pulled to within 6 points, but then the Bombers closed the game with an 18-4 surge. Jace Birney had 33 points and Kyler Ballard had 10 for the Bombers.

The ladies in green, however, outscored the Lady Pilots 16-6 in the final quarter to secure the win 39-31. Kate O'Neill led the Lady Bombers scoring with 16 points.
More About Lady Bombers Open Season With A WinMadison Glisson, fresh off winning her first Region 1 all-schools tournament, continued to add to her incredible career accomplishments in the KHSAA State Golf Championships. After finishing in a 3-way tie for the win at the sub-state event held at Hopkinsville Country Club, Madison advanced to the state finals. Playing at the Bowling Green Country Club on October 11 & 12, the BMHS junior shot a three-over par on both days of the championship to finish with a score of 150 for the tournament, good enough to finish tied for 4th place.

More About Lady Bombers Move to 3-0 on the Season.For the first time in 7 years, the BMHS Lady Bombers basketball team advanced to the district finals and the Region 1 Mercy Hospital Tournament. Going into the tournament as the #3 seed, the Lady Bombers upset Mayfield in the opening round by a score of 42-38. They did not have the gas remaining in the tank in the finals and fell to the Graves County Lady Eagles by a score of 66-27. Neveah Yates and Kate O'Neill were named to the All-District team. The Lady Bombers drew Carlisle County in the regional tournament. After splitting the regular season match-ups, the back and forth game turned into a heart-breaking loss for the Lady Bombers 50-47. The ladies in green ended their season with a 16-16 record.
More About Lady Bombers Finish as District Runners-upThe 2023-24 basketball season kicked off for the BMHS Lady Bombers with a home game against the Cairo Lady Pilots on November 30. Not only was it the opening game of the season, it was the opening game of the head coaching career of new Lady Bomber head coach Barry Phillips. The Lady Bombers had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures, and seven players involved in the scoring. Neveah Yates and Kate O'Neill led the way with 11 points. Amyah Smith and Jayden Cox each added 10. Johnna Riggs contributed 9, Gracie Beere 3, and Leah Holman 2 in the 56-29 win.
More About Lady Bombers Win Their Season OpenerKevin Estes has been named the new head boys’ basketball coach at Ballard Memorial High School. The former girls’ coach assumed his new duties on June 3, when he met with players and their parents, and held practice. “I’ve always wanted to coach boys’ basketball,” he said. “I feel like I can help this team, and bring some stability to our senior players for their final season. I think my experience as a successful girls’ coach can bring the boys’ team their wins, as well.” Many remember Estes as the BMHS girls’ coach from 2007-2011. In those years, he led the Lady Bombers to two All “A” regional championships, and two Elite 8 tournament appearances (2008 and 2009). His teams also won three consecutive district championships, in 2010, 2011 and 2012. More About Estes Named Head Boys Basketball CoachJon Hedges, Ballard assistant coach and former assistant and head coach as several regional schools, has been named the new varsity football coach at Ballard Memorial High School. He currently serves as Ballard’s alternative school director, and will continue in that position. Over 60 current and prospective players met with the new head coach at school on Thursday. “When I started here in 2022, one of my goals was pumping up a football program, from top to bottom,” Hedges said. “I’m excited to get that chance, and looking forward to bringing people together and building that team to win!” Hedges was head football coach at Reidland High School prior to the McCracken consolidation and an assistant coach at McCracken, head coach at Paducah Middle School for two undefeated regular seasons, as well as an assistant coach at Paducah Tilghman High School. More About Hedges Named New Head Football CoachAfter successfully defending her All A State Title in September, BMHS sophomore Madison Glisson finished tied for 8th in the KHSAA State Golf Championship played in Bowling Green. Glisson qualified at the Region 1 tourney, then qualified again at the sub-state round and earned the right to compete for the championship. She shot a 78 the first day and a 75 the second day. Her 9-over score for the tournament tied her with Andie Baumann from Owen County for 8th place, 12 strokes behind the tournament championship Trinity Beth from Marshall County who shot a 3-under 141 for the two days. Glisson never finished out of the top 10 in any tournament she played this season, and only finished out of the top 5 on three occassions.
More About Glisson Finishes 8th at KHSAA StateOn Saturday, January 21, sophomore Jace Birney - wearing number 13 - scored his 13th point in the 3rd quarter of the game against Carlisle County, and he became the 13th member of the 1,000-point club in BMHS mens' basketball history. Birney finished with 19 points on the night. Keith Myers ('78-'82) is the all-time leading scorer in Bomber history with 1,776 points.

With a lead of 36 points in the 4th quarter, the game finished with a running clock and a 69-32 win for the Bombers. The win moves them to 17-7 on the season. Jace Birney led the Bombers with 21 points, including five 3-point shots, and 4-for-4 free throw shooting. Konner Myatt was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and added a two-pointer for 11 points. Isaac Chandler, Phillip Duncan, and Jamison Smith each contributed 7 points to the cause. The Bombers travel to Graves County on Tuesday, January 31 for a district re-match of the game that ended in a 73-71 overtime loss for the Bombers in December.
More About Bombers Run Past Bulldogs, 69-32Fans from Ballard and Carlisle Counties filed in to the Green Palace on Saturday, January 21 for the largest crowd of the season, and were treated to an up-and-down game that ended in a 70-56 win for the Bombers. In a game where Jace Birney 13th point made him the 13th player all-time to enter the 1,000 point club at BMHS, Birney led the Bomber scoring attack with 19 points. Phillip Duncan and Jerico Wilson each added a dozen points. Jamison Smith added 11, Kam English 8, Jam Barber and Konner Myatt each had 3, and Keaton Overstreet had 2 points. The win moved the Bombers to 15-6 on the season. They will play at CCA on Tuesday, January 24.

More About Bombers Fall in All A Semi-FinalsMost coaches agree that it is hard to beat a team three times in a year, but the Bombers did just than when they defeated the Hickman County Falcons at the Green Palace on January 17. In a game where the Bombers found themselves trailing 10-7 after the first quarter, the guys in green warmed up and took a 30-22 lead at the half. The Bomber pressure eventually wore on the Falcons, and the final score was a 63-47 Bomber win. The Bomber offensive attack included eight 3-pointers on the evening from five different players. Jace Birney led all scorers with 23, followed by Kam English and Jamison Smith with 10 each. The win moved the Bombers to 12-6 on the season. They will travel to Fulton County to take on the Pilots on Thursday, January 19.
