With a reverse layup, Jace Birney scored his 16th point of the game against Graves County High School on Tuesday, February 4. Additionally, the basket gave Birney 2514 points for his career and a place atop all other players in the history of KHSAA Region 1 basketball. St. Mary’s Chase Cochran held the record at 2513 points, and had passed Joe Ford of Mayfield (who later played at Vanderbiilt) who had 2503 points. With 10 more regular season games scheduled, Birney has the opportunity to grow that total and make his record one more likely to stand for years.
Graves County gave the Bombers the game ball from the evening, and that ball was placed in a commemorative case and presented to Jace before the Graves County game at the Green Palace on February 15.
